At the opening on Wednesday morning March 26, the President of the National Council of Women, Ernie Hodge-Carty said, “There is no better way to celebrate 21 years of existence than through art work. Our creation was artwork in itself and when that happened we were given talents, some more than others. The Bible story supports this and what is happening here this morning endorses this also. The National Council is heartened by this fabulous display of art work,” the President continued. “We encourage and support all those persons who have worked hard and long to make this exhibition a reality. This is an encouraging effort for all parties involved and it sends a message to our Government to continue to promote our island as somewhere worthwhile visiting.”
The Arts and Crafts Centre is owned and operated by the National Council of Women and was a forerunner to the many art galleries that now exist on the island. Over the years it has provided an outlet for many local artists as well as holding training sessions and exhibitions in pottery, screen painting, batik, sewing, flower arranging, computer, cooking and other skills.
“Your work is of a very high standard and extremely admirable,” Hodge-Carty told the participants. “We commend you for all your hard work and dedication and wish you all every success during the function.” The current exhibition will continue for the next two months and most of the items are on sale, so all are encouraged to visit the Centre to see the work.
