The garden displays promise to be appealing with seven hotels and garden centres participating in the grounds display. All the primary schools will be participating in the Garden Plot Competition under the main theme, “Floral Fantasy”. A special display of desert roses in variegated colours is to be part of the show, and Eudoxie Wallace who grafted the desert roses will be giving a demonstration on grafting. Lorin Richardson will present a display of orchids and Purple Rose will be making the entrance display.
The competition includes arrangements of flowers and plants growing in pots or containers. The flower arrangements include fresh flowers, local flowers, foliage without flowers, flowers depicting a sunset, fresh flowers and fruits, flowers using driftwood or conch shell, and flowers depicting the theme “Floral Fantasy”. The plant section will include flowering plants in a pot or container, foliage in a pot, cactus or succulent, oversized plants and miniature gardens.
The judges will be looking at the overall appearance and impact of the arrangements, the condition of the flowers or plants, the artistic design, creativity and originality, balance, shape and colour and the suitability of the container. Ribbons will be presented to the first, second and third place winners in each category. This year, for the first time, winners will be announced at the opening ceremony that is scheduled for 11.00 a.m. on Saturday.
Everyone is encouraged to enter the competition or to at least attend the show and enjoy the many displays.
