Another Successful Year For The Kidz Kare Summer Retreat! |
| Publishing date: 27.08.2010 10:44 |
Once again, Kidz Kare Inc has seen the end of another successful event: its 2nd Annual Kidz Kare Summer Retreat which was held during August 9th – 15 at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School Campus A. The seven-day long camp, which was founded and directed by Ms. Giselle Bartlette along with the assistance and support of her sister Chanice, and facilitators Juliet, Gillian and Shakarii, attracted 45 children from the island’s primary schools. The camp offered children between the ages of 4-13 years the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence, foster social interaction, creativity and good sportsmanship.

Activities included traditional cooking, jewelry making, morning exercises, fun interactive games, storytelling, sewing, educational sessions about Anguilla’s history & culture, macramé knots, crafts, painting, colouring and much more. The campers also engaged in educational field trips such as a Cap Juluca nature trail and the Anguilla Public Library visit, as well as tours to Rebel Marine, the Desalination Plant, Aronel and Tropical Treats all of which deal with the manufacture of goods on Anguilla.
The final day climaxed with a Cultural Expo on the Agriculture Grounds in The Valley where the children displayed all of their creations of the week-long camp. Creations included jewelry hand pieces, cupcakes, local dishes (tamarind jam and sweet potato dumpling) and local drinks (papaya juice, mauby, ginger beer and lemonade). Also on display were photo summer cards, macramé knots with sea shells and hand-sewn handkerchiefs of Anguillian colours (blue, white and orange). There were also local performances, local music and traditional games.
From the happy smiles on our children’s and parents’ faces and comments such as: “This camp was magnificent, I wish it could last for a month!” “Thank you for giving my kids an amazing week!” and “I love it….this is by far the best camp I have ever attend!” Kidz Kare Inc knew right away that it had organized a successful event that had created lasting memories!
