Dismantling the Health Authority of Anguilla

The Ministry of Health is pleased to report that it is on course with the process of dismantling the Health Authority of Anguilla (HAA). On 13th August 2010 officials from the Ministry of Health will be meeting with the Health Advisory Commission to discuss the recommendations in the Commission’s report. Following these discussions, the Ministry of Health will finalize a new managerial structure for the provision of public sector health care services.

In dismantling the HAA several very important factors must be considered. The financial, legal, and human resource implications amongst other issues must be carefully weighed. These deliberations have taken considerable time.
The new management structure will be presented to all the Ministers of government on or before 20th August 2010. Subsequent to discussions with Ministers of Government, there will be a series of public consultations culminating in a public forum to be held at the Teachers Resource Centre. Members of the public will be invited to offer their views on the proposed managerial structure.
Finally, Executive Council’s authorization will be sought to bring the management of health services under direct government control and to implement the new management system.
The Minister of Health, the Hon. Edison Baird is confident that this new managerial system will result in significant financial savings for the Government of Anguilla and improved quality and efficiency in the delivery of health services.
