Letters To The Editor - Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport

The Editor,
The Anguillian

Dear Editor:

Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport

I am respectfully requesting space in your publication to share some information regarding what constitutes an international airport. I also wish to clarify for “Observer” what I meant by “although it may seem like creating an illusion, why not retain the use of ‘international’ as it conveys a positive public relations image of the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport.”

According to research on the following website International Airport from Wikipedia, the encyclopedia,) “an international airport is an airport typically equipped with customs and immigration facilities to handle international flights to and from other countries.” Anguilla’s airstrip, Capt. J. Lloyd International Airport (recently renamed in honour of Anguilla’s first beloved pilot and aviation pioneer,) meets both of those requirements.

Furthermore, according to the following article on the World-wide Web Wallblake Airport Renamed Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (PR Newswire) New York, July 21, Anguilla’s airstrip has been “designated an international airport by the International Civil Aviation Organisation” (ICAO), a United Nations Agency.

“Observer”, please make note that in no way (although it may seem like creating an illusion) did I ever mean to imply the recent name change of Anguilla’s airstrip is illusory. I leaned towards a choice of those words in order to maintain a rebuttal friendly dialogue in response to your call for the “removal of the word international” from Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport.

In the final analysis, I am sure there is a collective unified consensus among Anguillians (at home and abroad), pilots, friends, well-wishers and former colleagues of the late Capt. Clayton J. Lloyd who support retaining the sign at Anguilla’s airstrip which reads “Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport.”

Thank you, Editor, for your kind consideration and expression of interest in this matter.

Prof. Yinka G. Lloyd Stanford,
Manhattan, New York
