Dear Sir:

CONGRATULATIONS TO EBENEZER IN ANGUILLA

When I visited Anguilla some years ago, the first place I went to see was the Ebenezer Methodist Church in The Valley.

I have a liking for, and attachment to, the name. I feel very akin to it in that my grandfather’s name was Ebenezer; my father’s was Ebenezer; my son’s is Ebenezer and the name of the place I worshipped at when I was in Antigua is Ebenezer Methodist Church on St. Mary’s Street which was originally built in 1839. This is nine years after the opening of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Anguilla in July, 1830.

Oh, give me my Ebenezer! I just love it. When I researched the name on the Internet, I found: “Ebenezer means ‘Stone of Help’ in Hebrew. This is the name of a monument erected by Samuel in the Old Testament.”

I take this opportunity to congratulate the people of Anguilla, especially the Clergy and congregation of Ebenezer, on their 180 Anniversary. I also note that five Anguillian Methodist Ministers have emerged from The Valley, Anguilla, and I salute them. Ebenezer has been their “Stone of Help” from their youth and to this day.
J. Jane Samuel
