Kiddies Cricket In Anguilla: Valley Primary Scores Second Straight Win


The Annual Primary Schools Kiddies Cricket Competition, (now in its 8th year in Anguilla), sponsored by Scotia Bank (Anguilla) Ltd in conjunction with the West Indies Board, continues to be a successful undertaken.

The Valley Primary School has won the competition for the second consecutive time and has been presented with the coveted trophy by Cricket Development Officer, Cardigan Connor. In second place was the Orealia Kelly Primary School and in third position the Alwyn Allison Primary School.

The leading wicket taker was Dimitrus Adams, while his brother, Dimitri Adams, was the highest run scorer with 360 runs. “I think the Adams family has done a pretty good job, giving Valley Primary School the status of being the leading run-maker and leading wicket-taker,” Mr. Connor commented.

This year, seven Primary Schools (the six Government schools and the privately-run Central Christian School) participated in the tournament. Most of the matches were played at the Ronald Webster Park and the others took place at Morris Vanterpool School at East End, the Vivien Vanterpool School at Island Harbour and at the Adrian T. Hazell School on the Blowing Point Road.

Chief Education Officer, Rhonda Connor, stated that Scotia Bank, along with the Education Department and the Sports Directorate, had recognised that sports had a positive impact on schools and the society.


“It has positive impacts in promoting health and fitness and gives an added sense of purpose to boys and girls in our schools," she went on. “We are all aware that getting our youth from the sedentary lifestyle, which is sitting in front of the computer and the television instead of participating in sporting activities, is no easy achievement.

For this reason, the efforts of Scotia Bank, one of our longstanding partners in education, to assist in providing an all-round education for our youth, must be recognised.”
