The late Mrs. Countess Petty
|
She was the mother of Anguilla’s foremost historian, Mr. Colville Petty and Mrs. Nardine Lake and grandmother and great grandmother of a number of children. Among other relatives, she was the Aunt of former Chief Minister, Mr. Osbourne Fleming, and mother-in-law of Mr. Claudius Lake.
Mother Pett, as she was affectionately called, was the wife of the late Clarence Petty, a noted Arc Welder whom she survived for the past fourteen years. A calm and gentle person, she was well-respected and beloved in the East End Community and beyond. She was known over the years for her strong virtues of family life and Christian-living which she cherished, as well as the noble qualities of good manners, caring love and discipline.
Mother Pett spent some years in the United Kingdom with her husband and returned to Anguilla with him in 1963, taking up residence at the long-established family’s residence just north of the Old East End School, where Heritage Collection Museum is now located.
The funeral of the departed Mrs. Petty will be held at the Mount Fortune Seventh-day Adventist Church at 3 o’clock on Sunday, May 2, preceded by viewing at 2.30 p.m. Interment will be at Bethany Gospel Hall Cemetery in The Valley.
The Anguillian offers its condolences to the bereaved relatives and friends of Mother Pett.
