ANGUILLIAN CELEBRATES 100TH BIRTHDAY IN SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC


Glover Charles Rey was born on April 6, 1910, in East End. He left Anguilla in 1924 at the age if 14 years for Macoris and never returned.

On April 6, 2010, he celebrated his 100th birthday among a large gathering of family and friends from Anguilla, St. Martin, Puerto Rico, the United States and the large Rey family in the Dominican Republic.

Among those celebrating this milestone, were his oldest surviving brother Lemuel (Pully) Rey, nephews Dale Rogers and Rodney Rey and nieces Elsa and Ethel Duncan.

Glover Charles Rey is believed to be the oldest surviving Anguillian in the Dominican Republic. He is in good health and is fluent in both English and Spanish. He would like to return to Anguilla one day. “Just put me in the Forest and I will find my way East End,” he says.

The Anguillian centenarian is the son of the late Charles Wagner Rey and Elizabeth Bryan of East End. He is related to the Reys, Duncans, Sassos, Smiths, Websters, Rogers and Gumbs families in Anguilla.
