The correspondence was conveyed to Mr. Fleming by Governor Alistair Harrison. Both letters are as follows, beginning with the one from the Governor:

“Dear Osbourne,

“I have great pleasure in enclosing a letter to you from the British Minister for the Overseas Territories on the occasion of your retirement as Chief Minister. I join him in wishing you all the best for your retirement, on behalf of myself and all of us in the Governor’s Office. And I would like to thank you for the good working relationship that existed between us in my early months as Governor.

“Yours sincerely,
Alistair Harrison,
Governor of Anguilla.”

The letter from Mr. Chris Bryant:

“Dear Osbourne,

“I understand that, after 28 years of service within the Government of Anguilla, and ten as Chief Minister, you stepped down at the recent elections. On behalf of the British Government, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your service to the people of Anguilla.

“As the longest-serving Chief Minister within the Overseas Territories, you have served Anguilla through some good times, with unprecedented growth and prosperity throughout much of your time in office, culminating in Anguilla hosting the OECS summit in 2009. But there have also been many challenges, including the aftermath of Hurricane Omar in 2008 and the current global economic crisis.

“You have worked with a succession of Governors and have always been a courteous partner to them. I am sure that they would join me in conveying to you best wishes for your retirement.

“Yours sincerely,

Chris Bryant.”
