Sorry State Of The Public Library |

The Anguillian.
Dear Sir:
SORRY STATE OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Having just come home from our fifteenth year returning to beautiful Anguilla for our winter vacation, I feel compelled to share with you and your readers the extreme disappointment we feel when we observe the lack of upkeep and maintenance of the Public Library.
|
Several years ago, when the building was newly constructed, I was sure it would be an institution of great pride in Anguilla but its current condition does not attest to that civic appreciation. Debris all around the front of the building, broken shutters, lack of fresh paint, all speak to the lack of attention being given to what should be a very important gateway to learning and exploration of the world. I fear also that the outside of the Library may mirror the lack of importance being given to the collections it houses.
Since you have just completed your local elections, I sincerely hope that those new political leaders will show their concern for the importance of outstanding library services being delivered to the citizens of Anguilla in a building of which they can be justly proud.
Sincerely yours,
Elizabeth Manion
