Mr. Petty lecturing Candidates, Returning Officers and their Agents at Police Headquarters, a few days before the General Election
“Dear Mr. Petty:

"Please allow me to express my appreciation for your considerable contribution to the smooth running of the just completed General Elections. The election process was well organized, from the registration of voters through to the ballot boxes being delivered to the Returning Officers and the subsequent announcement of successful candidates.

“The organization of polling stations, and the efficient and timely manner in which voters were processed, must be acknowledged considering that over eighty percent of the electorate turned out to vote. These figures confirm that the electorate felt secure that the election process would be transparent while ensuring that an individual’s vote remained secret.

"Your drive, focus and organizational skills were obvious and must be commended.

"Yours sincerely,
Mr. Stanley E. Reid
Deputy Governor.”
