On Monday students from Grades 2 to 6 began writing poems which were judged at each grade level by the respective teachers. Meanwhile, Kindergarten and Grade One students engaged in puppet making for demonstration during stories and poems recitals. Tuesday was story writing for grades 2 to 6. These were also judged and the winning poems and stories were read on Wednesday September 23 at the schools auditorium. The entries were later recorded for radio broadcast.

Highlights of the activities included readings by Tr. Shelagh Richardson on Tuesday and story telling for Grades 2 to 6 by Evalie Bradley after assembly on Friday. Other members of the public and alumni of the school also contributed their time with the students to engage in poetry and story reading and writing.
Activities for the Adrian T. Hazel Primary School climaxed on the afternoon of Wednesday September 30 with an Open House and Fun Day. Parents were invited to visit the school and view an exhibition of literary works by students. Exhibits included poems, stories, books and charts.

According to Literacy Coordinator, Sabrina Darr, each grade worked with a Literacy Theme from its curriculum. She said some of the themes included All About Me, My Family, Best Friends and My School.
Grade 6 Teacher and Math Coordinator, Juline Hughes, encouraged students around the island to write, read and keep practicing. She advised that if students needed help they should seek it from teachers and parents as this would aid success.
