His Excellency Governor Alistair Harrison concluded his familiarisation tour of District 3 (the Valley North Constituency) with a visit to the office of The Anguillian Newspaper on Friday, September 18. He was accompanied by the Elected Representative, the Hon. Evans McNiel Rogers, Minister of Social Development.

The visit enabled the Governor to meet the Editor and Staff of The Anguillian in their work environment and to obtain firsthand information on the production and operation of the newspaper.
He then took the opportunity at the invitation of relatives to visit Mrs. Melvina Webster, a 102 year old resident, at the top floor of The Anguillian Newspaper office. He was pleased that the Governor’s Office was able to facilitate the travel of the grand lady to Miami, Florida, earlier this year, through the British Consul there, for medical treatment.
Mrs. Webster, who is the great aunt of the Minister of Social Development, was grateful to have been included in the official visit. “Thank God I have lived to see The Governor,” she smiled.

Governor Harrison took up his appointment in Anguilla in late April this year. So far his busy scheduled has allowed him to tour six of the seven constituencies. He will shortly be visiting District 2 (the East End/Sandy Hill Constituency), where the Elected Representative is Chief Minister, the Hon. Osbourne Fleming.

The Governor told The Anguillian that having met the Elected Representatives in the course of his duties, the visits to the various constituencies were providing him with an opportunity and privilege to familiarise himself with a number of residents and businesses on the island. The visits were also helpful to him in finding his own way around Anguilla during leisure time.
