SMART WAY IN TEACHING LITERACY

Students at the Island Harbour Primary School came away from a literacy class last Friday, September 18, fully conversant with what was taught to them by substitute teacher, Cherrydell Coombs, who is obviously endowed with some good teaching and classroom skills.

The children were first lectured in their classroom on the theoretical part of a literacy lesson on writing procedures, and were then taken to the school’s kitchen for the practical session to illustrate the various points made by the teacher. This was done through the use of a recipe which was carefully followed by the pupils who applied the right mix of ingredients to make coconut chocolate drops.

Put together, the theory and practice of the teaching turned out to be an interesting and finger-licking experience for the children. Onlookers, who followed the practical part of the teaching, thought it was a smart way to get across the otherwise challenging lesson in literacy and procedure.
