New Resident Judge Assigned To Anguilla


A new Resident High Court Judge in the person of Madam Justice Louise E. Blenman, has been assigned to Anguilla. The Guyanese-born jurist was welcomed to Anguilla and to the Bench at an official ceremony at the Court on Tuesday, September 14, in observance of the commencement of Law Year 2009-2010. Justice Blenman has been serving as a High Court Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court since 2003. Before coming to Anguilla she served on the Bench in Antigua. Prior to that she worked in St. Vincent and earlier had a brief appointment in St. Lucia.

She graduated in 1986 from the University of the West Indies with an LL.B degree with Honours and from the Hugh Wooding Law School in 1988 with a Legal Education Certificate. That year she was called to the Bar in Anguilla. In 2004 she completed postgraduate studies at the University of London and graduated with an LL. M degree.

Her legal career over the years has been as follows- 1988: Acting Magistrate with the Criminal Court in Georgetown, Guyana; 1988 -1991: State Counsel, Attorney General’s Chambers, Guyana; 1991-1993: Senior Legal Adviser, Attorney General Chambers, Guyana; 1993-1996: Principal Legal Adviser, Attorney General’s Chambers, Guyana; 1992-2000: Law Lecturer, University of Guyana; 1994: Deputy Solicitor (Ag) Attorney General’s Chambers, Guyana; 1996 -2000: Private Practice, Guyana; 2000-2003: Solicitor General, Attorney General’s Chambers, St. Lucia; 2003 – present: High Court Judge, Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.

Justice Blenman has already begun presiding over the High Court in Anguilla dealing with any mater coming before her.
