DOG POISONING

The Anguillian

Dear Sir,

DOG POISONING

As an Anguillian, I feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world. However, my family has recently experienced something very ugly here. Over the past year we have tragically lost four of our beloved family pets due to the cruel and dangerous practice of intentional poisoning. Just last week one of my children found our dog dead in the yard within minutes of the animal’s death. My child could have easily been playing with the dog in the moments before it died and possibly contracted the poison as well.

People may think they are resolving a problem by illegally poisoning animals, but they need to realize that by doing this they put everyone at risk, especially children. Poisoning is one of the most excruciatingly painful and torturous ways for an animal to die. I beg those who do this to please think twice before intentionally poisoning an animal. Not only is it heartbreaking for the pet owners, but it could very well have tragic consequences beyond just getting rid of a “problem.”

I have spoken to many people who have had, unfortunately, similar experiences with their pets. We all wish that as a community we could move beyond such barbaric behaviour and respect our neighbours including their extended animal family, thus resolving issues in a civilized manner.
