The attractive booklet, which captures a great deal of the Anguillian culture and folklore, is being sold personally by Mr. Harrigan who can be contacted by telephoning 235 7653 or at his email address “alamco 53@hotmail.com.” As mentioned in an earlier announcement, “Little Ole Anguilla” comprises one skit and two short plays produced in 1977, 1978 and 1979 respectively.
In the preface to his book, Mr. Harrigan stated in part that the play: “Choose for Yourself” reveals the social side of the community when parents sometimes objected to their children’s choice of a companion; “Limin Time” displays the rebellious attitude of some teenagers in retaliation to strict parenting; and “The Hard Days” brings to light some of the hardships faced by many persons who lived in Anguilla prior to 1970.
In a commentary on the collection of plays and skits, former Educator Vivien Vanterpool wrote in part: “I am extremely happy that Colonel Harrigan has decided to write these short plays. I have certainly enjoyed reading them and I am sure that they will give pleasure to many others who may want to perform in one or all of them…
“Through these activities and experiences, he writes with unpretentious clarity and directness to the preservation of Anguilla’s Cultural Heritage so that one can look back at the island’s history, thus letting future generations absorb with pride the island’s past. I feel confident that this book will attract a wide circle of readers and likely aspiring actors.”
