Anguilla Is Growing The Leaders Of Tomorrow

The recession in the world economy, and in Anguilla, has taken a toll on many industries, companies and individuals. In these difficult times it is important to look for indicators of recovery and hope. In order to do so, it becomes equally important to pursue and develop the leadership of tomorrow.

Anguilla should recognize and be proud of the individuals who make this their personal mission. A shining example of this emboldened effort coming to fruition is Keishaun Rogers.
Obtaining a university level education to support the pursuit of a profession is often a complicated, difficult and expensive task. The complexity, difficulty and cost are amplified when you are an Anguillian and must travel to a foreign country and compete with foreigners to do so. However, despite the arduousness of the task, it is a reachable goal for Anguillians. Keishuan Rogers, a proud native of Anguilla, graduated from East Carolina University, North Carolina, on 8 May 2009. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management (with a minor in Business Administration) while also successfully completing a training course in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
These accomplishments are no small feat. However, Keishaun did not stop there. In fact, he was able to earn a GPA of 3.88 allowing him the honour to graduate Magna Cum Laude. He was also privileged to be inducted in the Golden Key Honours Society and held the position of Treasurer of the Sigma Lambda Chi Construction Honours Society. During his tenure at East Carolina University, Mr. Rogers was hired as a Teachers Assistant (TA) for the programs construction surveying class. His acquired surveying skills from the Land Development Survey Services here on the island provided him the opportunity to train and educate his peers while pursuing his education.

In the fall of 2007, Keishaun applied to several construction companies to participate in their summer internship program to complete his graduation requirements. dck international, LLC, gave him the opportunity to work as a summer intern. While interning there, Keishaun was able to gain “real world” hands-on experience in his field of study as he was allowed to work on the Viceroy Anguilla, Cap Juluca and Kamique (Little Bay) projects. In the summer of 2009, dck international hired Mr Rogers as one of their fulltime Project Engineers. He is currently enrolled in their Engineers Development Program (EDP).

dck international are a global construction company with a history of quality workmanship and construction expertise with a commitment to recruiting, hiring and training the brightest and most innovative engineers. In 2008, dck worldwide, LLC, purchased many of the assets and resources of Dick Corporation and its member companies including Dick International which has been operating in South Hill, Anguilla, since 2005. Dick International has worked on several prestigious projects including Viceroy Anguilla and Cap Juluca Resort.
The dck worldwide Engineer Development Program (EDP) is designed to provide graduated engineers with an orientation of critical functions through sequential assignments. It allows for exposure to, but not limited to the following areas: Estimating, Preconstruction Services, Contract Administration, Procurement, Scheduling, Safety, Project Engineering, Risk Management and Legal. The Program consists of a two-year rotation through various functions. Each employee enrolled in the Engineer Development Program (EDP) is assigned a mentor, a person within dck international, who can counsel and assist him/her throughout the duration of the program.

As a young individual coming back to contribute to the development of Anguilla, Mr. Rogers would like to implore young minds to step outside of the ordinary and aim high. Great opportunities exist and are attainable. It is his hope that the youth of Anguilla would further their education and endeavor to return and contribute to the development of their island.
