Continuing the tradition of giving, the Caribbean Alumni for Regional Progress (CARP) presented two children from the Island Harbour Primary School with two scholarships to be used for the purchase of school books and supplies. Mr. Lajace Fleming and Ms. Shedicia Flemming were presented with $525.00 each by Mrs. Zenna Panthia. The students and their parents/guardians were very delighted about receiving the funds which will be used for obtaining school supplies.

The generous gesture has not been confined to Anguilla but has been extended to other Eastern Caribbean islands: Antigua, Dominica, Montserrat, St. Lucia, St.Vincent, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis. The scholarships were made possible through CARP and the efforts of Anguillian Mr. Bren Romney who is a member of the Committee.
In 1993 Dr.Randy Glean gave birth to the idea of recruiting Caribbean students to attend Midwestern State University (MSU). That year eight students were recruited from Antigua, Dominica, Grenada and St.Vincent. Since then 800 students have been recruited and over 97% of them graduated on time. Approximately 50% of the students graduate with honours, and a high number of those students continue with higher education. Most of them have completed second degrees, and some continue on with doctoral degrees. Some of the areas students have earned degrees in are Engineering, Education, Social Work, Business and different aspects of medicine.
Caribbean students attending MSU are considered for a Merit Scholarship and they pay in-state tuition. Students who can maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3:0 or higher can earn scholarships from their various departments or external sources. Unlike other programs, Caribbean students at MSU are assisted by the Caribbean Students Organization with housing, graduate school placement and cultural activities. At present Yolanda Hillman and Joanna Webster are among several Anguillans attending the University.
