| Publishing date: 17.07.2009 10:48 |
One of Anguilla's fire trucks overturned in the Little Dix area on Tuesday, while travelling to Shoal Bay Road, where the occupants of a jeep, reportedly driven by a female motorist, were trapped inside after the jeep had crashed into a utility pole. The fire truck was on its way to rescue them.

One occupant of the fire truck was injured. Police said the occupant seemed to have fractured or broken his wrist. Inspector Emris Rogers confirmed that there was a report of a serious accident at Shoal Bay and there was need for the heavy-duty hydraulic rescue tool, known as the “Jaws of Life,” to free the two occupants of the vehicle. According to Rogers, the Fire Service was contacted to assist with its equipment which was always mounted on the fire truck.
The Inspector said that while on its way to the Shoal Bay accident the fire truck encountered “some problem with traffic and overturned and one of the Fire Officers got injured.”

He noted that Police, using their own “Jaws of Life” tool, eventually freed the two persons pinned in the jeep at Shoal Bay. The ambulance took them to the hospital where they were treated and discharged.
This is the second fire truck to have suffered damage while on duty. Some years ago one such vehicle, but a lower grade, was completely destroyed while attempting to put out a grass fire at West End.
