Open Letter To The Chief Minister

Date: 6th July 2009

The Honourable Chief Minister
Mr. Osbourne Fleming
The Secretariat
Anguilla.

Dear Sir,

The Anguilla Civil Service Association is expressing deep dissatisfaction with the overall economic direction charted for this country over the past twelve years.

We believe that sound economic opportunities have been squandered and that we have also forfeited too much for too little in return. This we believe to be the case, not only where foreign investment is concerned, but also in relation to many capital projects as well. This modus operandi we believe is a major contributor to the present financial position and it should not be attributed to the world economic melt down alone.
Going forward we trust that the importance of making thorough and prudent decisions on investment and spending has been realized.

It is our belief that the island’s economy must be handled diligently and meticulously through thorough planning with appropriate checks and balances. This will ensure that sound, transparent economic decisions are being made in the best interest of all the stakeholders involved, which includes the Anguillian people of which Civil Servants are a part.

The Anguilla Civil Service Association promotes accountability and transparency and as such will be holding Government accountable going forward.

Yours Respectfully,

…………………………
Gerard Gumbs (Mr.)
President
