Press Release: ANGUILLA, BRITISH WEST INDIES, Monday, 13th July, 2009.
Over 120 people enjoyed a delicious 4 course meal and door prizes courtesy of Anguilla Rums at the beautiful DaVida Restaurant in Crocus Bay on Monday, July 6, which showcased Anguilla's Gold Medal Winning National Culinary Team.

Guests were extremely complementary about the Gold Medal winning meal that featured dishes cooked by Anguillas National Culinary Team when they competed at the TASTE of the Caribbean Competition in June and won both Team and individual Gold Medals. The meal was unusual in that it included not one but 2 main courses – so that guests could sample both the dish that took the team to the final and the dish that Glendon Carty of Ripples and Cap Juluca prepared to win “Caribbean Chef of the Year”.
Guests (who were all dressed in Gold, Black or White) included: His Excellency the Governor, Alistair Harrison and Mrs Harrison; Deputy Governor Stanley Reid and Mrs Reid; Hon Donna Banks, Special Advisor Tourism, Ministry of Tourism; Mrs Petty Barrett, PS Department of Youth and Culture; Mrs Sherille Hughes, President of the AHTA and her husband Frankie; Merlyn Rogers, Acting Director of Tourism. There were tables of guests from The Judges Chambers, NCDC, Ripples, Sunset Homes, Cusinart, Cap Juluca, Viceroy and many other friends and family of the Team members.
The evening was compered by Trudy Nixon, the Executive Director of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association, who gave the guests information on the competition and the amazing achievements of the team – the first ever Anguillian Team to win Team Gold and Glendon Carty, the first ever Anguillian to win Caribbean Chef of the Year. She also thanked the sponsors and supporters who helped make the success possible: Previous members of the Anguilla National Culinary Team; The Teams Family who supported their decision to compete and spend so much time practicing; the financial support and sponsorship of Anguilla Rums, American Airlines, The Anguilla Tourist Board and Ministry of Tourism, the Department of Youth and Culture and the employers of the Team who had supported their staffs involvement in the competition: Cap Juluca, Cuisinart Resort and Spa, DaVida, Ripples Restaurant, Sirena and Veya.
All agreed that DaVida restaurant was a beautiful setting for the event. During the evening local photographer Susan Croft took shots of the chefs preparing and serving the meals to the delighted guests.
After the food was served Trudy Nixon introduced all the members of the Team to much cheering and applause. Team Captain Dean Samuels, Executive Sous Chef at Cap Juluca then finished the evening with a rousing speech, thanking everyone for supporting team and saying that “he told them we would come back with the gold” and that next year we are going back for more – including the one title to elude Anguilla so far – highest scoring team.
