Giant Potato Harvested at Island Harbour


The potato, which weighed nine and a half pounds, was the product of a small white vine, a popular choice by farmers on the island, due to its prolific production in good soil conditions.

Mr. Webster planted the vine in a sandy area which allowed it to take deep root notwithstanding the rock bottom it eventually reached. It was obviously around for sometime and showed signs of new growth.

In the above photograph, Cuthwin Webster, of Island Harbour, visited The Anguillian this week to show off a giant sweet potato he harvested in his backyard.
