The most recent fund-raising activity was a Pink Ribbon Classical Concert held at the Bethel Methodist Church, last weekend, featuring three musicians: La-Vaune Henry (Soprano), Jesse Cottrell (Violinist) and Laura Penrose (Pianist), who came over from St. Maarten where they recently performed.

The artistes were invited to Anguilla to present a similar performance which included the works of internationally famed musicians Chopin Ravel, Caccini, Dvorak, Mozart, Purcell, Britten and Berstein.

“We wanted to have a very elegant event which would draw the island’s attention to breast cancer awareness … and we were very fortunate to have the concert performed in Anguilla as well,” Janine Edwards, an active community worker involved in “Women with Heart,” told The Anguillian. “It is not very often that Anguilla is fortunate to have classical concerts of this calibre, and we were very excited that we were able to bring it to the audience here.”

Top sponsors were Malliouhana Hotel and Spa, LIME and Pam Webster. Supporting sponsors included CuisinArt Resort & Spa, JAG Gumbs & Co, Centre for Dental and Facial Aesthetics, Veya Restaurant, Elite Pro, Sunset Homes/Signature Villas and Highway Car Rental.

The concert was chaired by Calvin Bartlett who welcomed the audience and introduced the artistes.

According to Ann Marie Letang, a breast cancer survivor, a series of other events will be held later in the year in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October. One of the activities will be Peddling Pink, a bicycle event. It is hoped that many persons would participate in the cycling for a cause. “It is all about creating a greater awareness of the disease because it is touching the lives of many of our people,” Ms Letang stated. Another breast cancer survivor, who joined Mrs. Edwards and Ms Letang at the concert, was Dental Surgeon, Dr. Denise Pascal-Brooks, who was also grateful for the caring support of the public and the sponsors of the event.
