The Under 23 Netball Team has found an innovative way of raising well-needed funds by profiting from the popularity of another sporting organisation. The smart young women organised a domino competition on May 16 and 17 which, to their delight, attracted much sponsorship.

The participating domino teams were the Warriors of Stoney Ground, who took first place; the Police, who placed second and K-9, which came third. The other teams were Refugees and Native Boys.

The sponsors were Harney Westwood & Riegels, Webster Dyrud Mitchell, Caribbean Associated Attorneys, Ashley & Sons, Alex Richardson & Associates, Merchant Market, Atlantic Financial, Anguilla Domino Association and especially Joey & Dijohn, Rosmond Henderson and Linda Proctor.

Commenting on the tournament, President of the Warriors, Leroy Bryan, applauded the Under 23 netball girls for a well-organised event and for their thoughtful initiative to assist their team. He hoped that other tournaments would take place later and offered his good wishes to the young ladies for the future.

Speaking on behalf of her team, Lakisha Proctor was grateful to all the teams for their participation and in particular to the sponsors for their readiness to provide assistance. She hoped that the tournament would be an annual affair and that it would attract more teams.

Meanwhile, the Under 23 Netball Team is continuing its fund-rasing efforts between now and the end of June to raise funds to participate in the OECS Netball Tournament planned for Nevis in July. They are approaching a number of businesses and individuals for assistance and wish, through The Anguillian, to appeal to them, to expect members of the team and to give generously to a worthy cause.
