Young Man Given Four And A Half Years In Prison For Manslaughter

A young man was sentenced to 4.5 years in jail for a 2007 killing. Michael LueFung, also known as Mikey or Lufie, was convicted of manslaughter on May 8, 2009, for the death of the then 18-year old Jovan Eustace Guishard in December 2007 at South Hill.

On January 20, 2009 the charge against LueFung read that Michael LueFung on the 7th day of December 2007 at South Hill, in Anguilla, with malice forethought, caused the death of Jovan Eustace Guishard by an unlawful act.

Indictment Number 0003 of 2009 between the Crown and LueFung is a warrant of commitment in the High Court on Sentence of Imprisonment. It states that LueFung accepted a plea of manslaughter and pleaded guilty on April 30.

The Crown accepted the manslaughter plea before the Honorable Madam Justice Margaret Price Findlay sitting at The Valley, Anguilla.

The Court heard that LueFung and Guishard allegedly entered into a dispute which resulted in wounding that led to the death of Guishard who, it was understood, was at the time living in the USA and was visiting home. At the time of the incident LueFung was 17 years old.

Jovan Guishard was the son of Patricia (Patsy) Romney and Eustace Guishard.
