Yoann, a Freshman at the Monroe College in New York State, brake the Anguilla High Jump Record which was 1.87m, at the New York Relays held on April 12th, 2009. In his 2nd attempt at braking the old record, Yoann cleared a height of 1.92m. This is a personal accomplishment for him as he is a member of the Monroe College Mustangs.
Yoann, once again proved himself an accomplished high jump athlete by jumping a personal best of 1.95m in Maryland in the NJCAA District Out door Track and Field Championships on May 1st and 2nd 2009. Under the direction of his coach,
Mr. Thomas Dunn, Yoann will represent Monroe College at the Alfred State College-SUNY meet from May 7th to 9th.
Besides Track and Field, this ambitious and fun loving 18 year old is presently pursuing studies at Monroe College, hoping to complete an Associates of Arts Degree in Hospitality Management in September this year. It is his desired dream to complete his Bachelors Degree before, according to him, returning to “Home Sweet Home,” to make his contribution to the development of our tourism product here in Anguilla.
His future career goal is to one day become a leading hotelier in Anguilla. His advice to young people is “to live a simple and humble life, follow your dreams and one day you will succeed and achieve.”
Yoann wishes to put on record his appreciation to all the persons who have assisted him in pursuing his dream so far, especially his sister Valerie, his parents , Oliver and Carmella Romney, Teacher Winston, Wilma Proctor and Mr. Karl Woodley.
