WHERE IS THE DRAFT CONSTITUTION?

It is some time now since the draft constitution was handed in to the Government. The last I heard was that the Attorney General’s Chambers was perusing it and probably making sure that it was in good form for presentation to the public.

Just where is it now? It was announced that the British team would be arriving in Anguilla in June for the talks, but before then the Anguillian people would be given an opportunity to know what the contents of the draft document are.

This, to my mind, should be the main preoccupation of the new Governor: not just to bring about the visit of the British team, but to involve the people of the island in the final stages of the constitutional process.

It has been a long time discussing the proposed new constitution which has gone through two commissions and other Overseas Territories have left us behind. It is time for us to catch up and have our constitution in place.
