At a press briefing on Wednesday, Mr. Webster presented a 32 inch plasma screen television set to Assistant Treasurer and Member of the Marketing Committee of the Anguilla Cricket Association Mr. Mark Romney as part of his sponsorship which also includes an EC$1000 cash incentive for the Man of the Match.
The television is the Grand Prize which forms part of a prize package that can be won by anyone holding one or more tickets to the four day match.
Mr. Romney said that in an effort to gain the support of the public and especially to increase attendance to the match the Anguilla Cricket Association has devised a very interesting package to make it a fun-filled event. He noted there will be prizes and surprises; ticket holders will have a chance to win any of the prizes including the TV.
Mr. Romney said the Association is very happy for the kind sponsorship from Mr. Webster. He pointed out that Mr. Webster is very much a lover of cricket and sports in general given his strong contribution over many years. Romney added that Webster’s most recent contribution will go a long way to help develop cricket in Anguilla and by extension help to bring West Indies cricket back to the pinnacle. The Anguilla Cricket Association official extended special thanks on behalf of the organization and the wider cricketing public to Mr. Webster for willingly coming forward and making his contribution.
Webster says for the love of sports and cricket he “found it necessary to give something to bring back cricket to Anguilla and to the West Indies; a boost especially in the attendance in Anguilla.”
In the past Webster has been a continuous sponsor of the Island Harbour Cricket Team. He was also the first person to offer $500 to anyone on the National team that makes 100 or more runs.
A number of other businesses and individuals are also donating prizes to the Anguilla Cricket Association including Lime which is providing telephones to be used by managers and coaches of the respective teams, ground staff and score-boarders as well as facilitating the communication needs of the Press and officers of the local Association.
The match, which will feature Leeward Islands versus Trinidad and Tobago, is expected to draw large crowds at the Webster’s Park. To win the TV persons would have to purchase an entrance ticket at EC$10 for each of the four days.
The competing teams arrived on Anguilla on Tuesday evening and are staying at Jamies Villas in Island Harbour which are owned by Mr. Webster. They are scheduled to fly out next Tuesday.
