Task Force Report On School Violence |
| Publishing date: 27.03.2009 10:57 |
A Task Force, commissioned by the Ministry of Education, has submitted its report (with recommendations) on school violence and other behavioural problems relating to students at both campuses of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School.
Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Chanelle Petty-Barret, issued a statement on Monday in which she said that the Ministry had become increasingly concerned about the incidence of violence at the school.

She lamented that this had manifested itself despite the various initiatives of the school and of the Education Department to alleviate the problem.
Mrs. Petty-Barret said that as a consequence the Ministry convened a Task Force on January 14 with a specific mandate. That charge was:
“To conduct an investigation of conditions at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School with a view to making recommendations as to measures that can be taken to reduce incidences of violence at the school and to ensure that it is an environment in which students and staff feel safe.”
The Task Force comprised three persons: Mr. Peter Wolinsky (Education Psychologist), Ms. Sheryl Ruan (Guidance Counselor) and Mr. K. Christopher Laing (an Attorney).
The rest of the statement continues as follows:
“The Task Force had six weeks to complete the work. They delivered their report on 11th March, 2009 and have made several recommendations. The Ministry found these recommendations to be quite useful and is in the process of putting together a team of persons to direct and oversee the implementation of these recommendations.
“The Ministry publicly thanks the members of the Task Force for their hard work and also those persons who through their cooperation ensured that they were able to complete their work in a timely manner. A copy of their report will be made available to the public.”
