Scotiabank Anguilla has presented three brand new computers with attached printers as well as a cheque for US$2,000 as part of its continuing support for education and students on the island.

The computer equipment was handed over on Tuesday this week by the Bank’s Managing Director, Kervin Jn Baptiste, to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Channelle Petty-Barrett and the cheque was received by Principal of the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School, Mavis Fleming. The Coordinator for Pre and Primary Education, Veda Harrigan, was also at the brief presentation ceremony.
Mr. Baptiste said that the Bank had recognised its corporate social responsibility to invest in the community which was also investing in the financial institution. He told the Permanent Secretary that it was up to her as to how she would distribute the computers, noting that there were some unfortunate incidents where equipment had been stolen from schools. He hoped that the gift would alleviate some of the problems the Ministry had been experiencing in that regard.
He stated that the cheque presentation to the Adrian T. Hazell School was in response to a request by the Principal to assist in a fund-raising effort to purchase much-needed educational supplies for the students. He said the assistance was provided under the “Scotiabank Bright Future Programme’ which benefits children and the community on a whole. It also helps to raise the bank’s profile and increase its visibility in the community.
Mr. Baptiste praised the Bank’s Customer Support Officer, Ena McClean.who is “the Champion” of the programme for coordinating the fund-raising effort by galvanising the support of the rest of the staff as well as arranging for customers entering the bank to make contributions. He thanked the staff, customers and friends for their assistance, a number of whom participated in a well-supported walkathon last Saturday, February 7. The early morning walk was through the western area of The Valley, into North Hill and back to Scotiabank where breakfast was served. There were 46 participants including staff members, customers and some students.
Mrs. Petty-Barrett expressed heartfelt thanks to Scotiabank on behalf of the Ministry for its generous donation. “It really warms our heart that there is still a community spirit alive and thriving here in Anguilla,” she told the Managing Director. “We look forward to Scotiabank being a continuing partner in education and hope that others will follow your example. We are most grateful.”
Ms Fleming also thanked the Bank for its assistance to her school. She said the donation would be used to purchase a reading series of books as part of the language programme for students.
Mr. Baptiste pledged that the Bank would continue its support especially to the Education Department “wherein our future lies.”
