Burglaries And Thefts At School, Business Places, Homes


Police in Anguilla are investigating a series of thefts and burglaries across the island which are keeping them very busy. In the latest of these, the Police responded to burglary at South Hill at the Adrian T. Primary School on February 2. It was found that intruder(s) used what appeared to have been a welding torch to burn off the lock at the entrance door thus gaining entry. A number of computers were stolen, a matter which the Police are investigating.


The Police reported that Akeel Carty of South Hill was arrested and charged for robbing the Barrel Stay Restaurant in Sandy Ground. He appeared in Court on Monday, February 2 and was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 to reappear on April 9.

The Police are continuing to investigate the robbery which was said to have been committed by two persons. The second person has not yet been identified.

In the early hours of the following day, February 3, the Police, while patrolling the Valley area, discovered that a business place in the Caribbean Commercial Complex was burglarised. It appeared that a hack saw was used to cut the steel bars to gain entry.
On having been informed, the owner reported that shoes and clothing were missing.

In another incident early on February 3, the Police responded to a report of a theft of a tourist’s handbag at Shoal Bay Beach. Acting on information received by the Police, Stedroy Hodge of North Valley was picked up on the Stoney Ground Road. He was found in possession of some missing items from the bag. As a result he was arrested and charged with theft. He was due to appear in Court on Wednesday this week.

The regular Police report showed that 17 crimes were committed during the period January 28-February 4. Of that number, there were 12 burglaries. The offences were committed in The Valley, South Hill, Pope Hill, Stoney Ground, Welches and Deep Waters.

Items stolen included cellular phones, a DVD player, keys, photo album, cash pans, jewelry, an ankle weight, shoes, clothing and a sum of money.

There were attempted burglaries at Deep Waters and Shoal Bay

Three thefts were reported at South Hill, Shoal Bay and West End. Car wheels, a ladies bag and contents and a dryer machine were stolen.
Twelve persons were arrested during the period: ten males for theft, suspicion of theft, robbery, criminal damage, suspicion of burglary, suspicion of robbery, possession of cannabis, and immigration breaches respectively. One female person was arrested for assaulting a Police Officer.

There were five traffic accidents during the period under review.
