Mr. Romney’s appointment was formally announced by Davidson Charles, Vice President of LIME Leeward Islands. He has been quoted as saying that, “The promotion of another Anguillian to head the Anguilla Business Unit is in line with LIME’s emphasis on placing Caribbean nationals at the forefront of the company across the region.”
Speaking at a press briefing, Romney, who previously served the company when it was Cable & Wireless, said he was delighted to be back as he had a passion for telecommunication services and serving the public in that regard. He promised customers “to put another spin” on listening to their needs. “We want to make sure we listen carefully to our customers, understand their needs and meet those needs and in a timely fashion.” He undertook to work towards ensuring improved customer service; providing customers with more value for their money; and enhancing customer experience.
He emphasised that improving customer service across every function of the Anguilla Business Unit would be a key priority, as he assumed responsibility for leading the island’s telecommunications team through the One Caribbean Transformation process and beyond.
He also stressed his commitment to providing a dedicated leadership role for his staff in the areas of inter-dependence, motivation and empowerment. He believes that if his organisation is on a high level of functioning within, it would be in a good position to provide quality service on the outside to its customers.
Mr. Romney’s rise to the top role of Country Manager comes after a combined total of 22 years of service. He began working at Cable & Wireless in 1982 as an Accounts Clerk in the Finance Department with responsibility for accounts payable, bank reconciliations, payroll and monthly reporting until he left the company in 1984 to further his studies.
He rejoined the company in 1988 and was appointed Financed Manager with responsibility for the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation. In 1992 he was attached to the Finance Department at GRENTEL, Grenada, for three months. He was later transferred to the Regional Headquarters Finance, London, for 16 months.
In 1999 he took up the role of Head of Customer Services and following a restructuring of the organisation, he was appointed Vice President Sales & Mobile in 2000. In 2005 he joined the North Area Office as Revenue Assurance Manager with responsibility for Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat and the Turks & Caicos Islands.
In the interim, during the selection process to fill the Country Manager position for LIME Anguilla, Mr. Christonie Fleming was responsible for the day-to-day functions of the company. As the new Head of the Business Unit, Mark has followed in the footsteps of his father, Everette Romney, MBE, who came from the bottom of the ladder to attain the post of Manager during the formative years of Cable & Wireless in Anguilla.
