IT And Other Equipment Stolen From Schools |
| Publishing date: 06.02.2009 12:28 |
The Honourable Minister of Social Development, Mr Evans McNiel Rogers, publicly condemns the acts of burglary that have been taking place at public schools in Anguilla over the past months. Various schools have suffered loss of their IT and other equipment at the hands of vandals, the most recent being the Adrian T Hazell Primary School which lost 7 computers in a recent burglary.

The Government of Anguilla has spent significant sums of money in ensuring that schools are equipped to deliver IT as part of their curriculum and to use IT in the delivery of other subject areas. Despite the Government’s best efforts to secure the IT rooms at the various schools, persons choose to target schools.
By stealing from schools, these unconscionable persons are stealing our children’s chances of an education and blighting their future. They are depriving our children of the benefit of the investment both the Government, their parents and the people of Anguilla generally have made in their education. As a country, we cannot allow this to continue unchecked.
I am therefore appealing to persons who have any information that may assist in recovering the stolen equipment or that may be of benefit to the police in dealing with these matters to come forward with that information. I also say to persons in the various communities across Anguilla, the school in your community is your school. If you steal from your school, you are stealing from your children. Don’t be a part of the problem. Rather be a part of the solution by keeping an eye on your school, looking out for trespassers and loiterers, being vigilant in ensuring your school is not vandalized. Let us all do our part to secure the hope we have for a better tomorrow for all our children.
