Department Of Labour Introduces New Work Permit Identification Card

Effective February 2, 2009, the Department of Labour will introduce a new work permit identification card, equipped with features and benefits to increase security and efficiency.

The work permit ID card will not replace the work permit stamp that is currently placed in the passports of migrant workers, but will complement it. New and renewal applicants for work permits will receive the new ID upon approval by the Ministry of Labour.
The new ID card, similar in shape and size to that of a driver’s licence ID will feature a digital photograph, name and signature of cardholder, occupation, date of birth, country of origin, employer in Anguilla, work permit number, expiration date, signature of the Labour Commissioner and some work permit conditions. It is expected that the new ID cards for migrant workers will help the Immigration and Labour Departments crack down on illegal workers and prevent immigration abuses. They will also enable those here legally to prove it.

The new work permit ID cards will be mandatory for all migrant workers who are governed under the Fair Labour Standards Act.

New Office Opening Hours

Additionally effective February 2, 2009, the Department of Labour will be opened to the general public during the lunch hour. The new opening hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. This initiative demonstrates the Department’s commitment to the delivery of improved service and customer satisfaction.
