The Seventh-day Adventist community in Anguilla is currently involved in a field campaign to raise funds of which a large portion is to be distributed to assist with various social and educational needs on the island, including the less fortunate.

The Ingathering Campaign, as the exercise is called, began about a week ago with letters to the business sector and strict accounting records in the hands of those collecting the funds.
“The needs are out there in the community and they are great,” Senior Pastor, Danny Philip stated. “As a church we are happy that we could have responded directly both internally and externally. We were able to assist the Albena Lake- Hodge Comprehensive School with a multi-media projector; fire victims and other needy cases on the island. We were also able to assist Haiti and Cuba with over US$11,000 following the hurricane damage there.”

He disclosed that over EC$44,000 was ingathered last year. He hoped that, notwithstanding the economic and financial situation impacting the island, it would be possible for many donors to contribute towards the fund-raising effort for worthy causes.
Similar Ingathering Campaigns are being held in the various other islands comprising the North Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and largely for the benefit of charity work there as well.
Meanwhile, the Youth Director of the Conference, Pastor Wilmoth James, is in Anguilla conducting training and counselling sessions for young people of the church and discussing how its leadership and adults can play a role in shaping their lives and the work of the ministry on a whole.
He spoke about the message from the Bible. “It is the only message that can cause them to come out from the drugs, to pull them from the alcohol and it is the only message that can pull the cigarette from between their fingers.”
He added: “In the Book of Malachi, God has given the message to the youth of the world and if they were to just embrace it this island would mount to a high standard.”
