Royal Anguilla Police Force To Observe 37th Anniversary |

Arrangements are being finalised to observe the 37th Anniversary of the Royal Anguilla Police Force with a week of activities spanning Sunday January 25 to Saturday the 31st. The theme is “Combining Efforts To Combat Crime For 2009.”

The Chairperson for the programme is Superintendent Alice Proctor, who gave a rundown of the activities to local reporters. The week will open with a contingent of the Force attending the divine service at the First Baptist Church at Welches on Sunday, January 25. Also in attendance will be members of the St. Maarten Voluntary Korps Service who will engage the Anguilla police in games and social events later in the day.
In the evening Police Week will be declared open by Governor Andrew George in a radio broadcast. On Monday, January 26, historian Colville L. Petty, OBE, will deliver a lecture to the police at 9 a.m. In the evening there will be a Spelling Competition at the Orealia Kelly Primary School at Stoney Ground. There will also be radio broadcasts by Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming and Commissioner of Police, Keithley Benjamin.
A Gospel Concert will take place at the Christian Fellowship Church at Blowing Point on Tuesday, January 27. Other programme highlights for the rest of the week will include a luncheon on the grounds of Police Headquarters; and a social evening on Wednesday, January 28; a senior citizens’ luncheon at Police Headquarters and a ‘Laugh-a-Laugh’ concert on Thursday, January 29; an Open Day at and bingo Police Headquarters on Friday, January 30. A grand prize of US$3,500 is at stake for the lucky winner.
Saturday, January 31, will begin with an early morning walk followed at 10 am by a Kiddies’ Jamboree on the grounds of Police Headquarters. The Police Dinner & Ball will take place later at Blue Ridge Hotel, South Hill.
Among the prizes to be raffled at that event will be a jeep which is now on display.
