At Anguilla’s ‘Oscars’ -- Delroy Lake wins Hotelier of the Year and Cap Juluca’s new restaurant ‘Blue’ is the belle of the ball.

On Friday 5th December, close to 200 tourism professionals gathered at the recently refurbished “Blue” Restaurant at Cap Juluca to learn who had won the coveted Tourism Awards. The 2008 Tourism Gala and Awards – under the distinguished patronage of Hon Victor F Banks - truly showcases Anguilla’s excellent, high end tourism product. The evening was judged a glittering success as Award Winners and Nominees were recognized and appreciated in a high quality ‘Oscars’ style Awards ceremony. Although Cap Juluca officially opens on 15th December - this fantastic evening was an opportunity to witness the significant refurbishment undertaken– and the beautiful “Blue” restaurant (formerly Georges) was truly the belle of the ball. Flowers by Black Orchid complemented the beautiful new décor. Guests said they were hugely impressed with the changes that had been made.
The Honorable Mr. Victor F Banks Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Investment, Commerce and Tourism made brief remarks on the importance of delivering good service at all times and the challenges we face going into the new season. The ceremony was hosted by Amelia Vanterpool Kubisch, Director of Tourism, ATB and Trudy Nixon, Executive Director, AHTA. 8 awards were presented during the course of the evening as a sumptuous 4 course meal was enjoyed with wines supplied by Les Grands Vins de France. Great fun was had as members of the AHTA and ATB announced the winners of the 40 plus door prizes which had been donated by members of the AHTA. The evening culminated in the Presentation of Hotelier of the Year to Delroy Lake of Ku. Mr Lake was unable to attend as he was on a business trip marketing his property, but Mrs Delroy Lake and Ku’s Assistant Manager Yvonne Lloyd were able to receive the Award on his behalf. Mr Gary Thulander the General Manager of Cap Juluca recognized his staff for their hard work and then presented a check of $5.000 US to the AHTA and ATB in support of the work they do. Rocklyn and Denise Maynard of Professional Photos photographed the attendees and the evening concluded with music and dancing with Boss.
