The Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association has published another in its series of official magazines: Absolutely Anguilla. The high-quality publication was launched on the grounds of the Anguilla Tourist Board on Thursday, January 8. President of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association, Sherille Hughes, said it was the sixth year of the association’s production of an official publication and the second year of the Absolutely Anguilla Magazine.
“Our aim is to create a special visitor magazine that reflects the unique quality of the Anguillian experience for visitors to read and enjoy while on the island or to take home in memory of their stay on our lovely island,” she stated. “We are hugely encouraged by the local participation and support and advertising for the magazine.”
She was grateful to all the Association’s members and other persons for their contributions. “We salute the amazing talent of our local contributors for their writing skills and excellent photography and our partners, Concepts Advertising, for their expertise in design and print,” she said.
Executive Director of the Hotel Association, Trudy Nixon, commended and introduced the magazine’s contributors without whom it would not have been so special. The writers she mentioned were Dwayne Adams, Maris Edwards, Scott Hauser, Karim Hodge, Mimi Gratton and herself. “These stories are supported by up-to-date island information, a calendar of events, a wedding section and accommodation and restaurant listings,” she said. “Photography highlights include some wonderful shots by our local photographers, Susan Croft, Chris Mason and Rebecca Haskins.”
She thanked everyone who contributed in one form or another to the magazine. Maris Edwards was called up to read a beautiful tangled tale she crafted on “Tying Out The Goats, and Dwayne Adams read his story on “Relishing the Pots of Paradise,” an examination of the evolution of Anguillian cuisine.
Editor of Absolutely Anguilla, Rolf Hoschtialek of Grenada, spoke on behalf of his team. “Thank you for allowing us into your lives and homes,” he told the gathering at the launching ceremony. “The warmth and hospitality of Anguilla is what makes it a blessing and a privilege for us to publish this magazine that Anguillians see themselves in. A meeting two years ago in London at World Travel Market has culminated in two stunning editions reflecting all that is Anguilla. What we have achieved with editions one and two gives us hope for the new heights for what we can and must achieve for future editions.”
He added that Absolutely Anguilla could not happen without the total commitment of the membership to make it all the success that his team needed to make.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Gilda Samuels of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association.
Absolutely Anguilla has been widely distributed at hotels, guest houses, villas restaurants and other places on the island frequented by visitors.
