The club was started in October of 2003 with twenty five members and still has a full roster to this date. Mr Hazell started the club when he realised that the predominant music classes in Anguilla were piano, woodwind or brass instruments.
“The students are very enthusiastic about learning to play the guitar, especially when they realise that they are making progress,” said Mr Hazell.
Although the club has not yet put on a formal recital, every year since its inception the students have had a chance to showcase their talent by playing at the schools annual speech nights, graduations, and Christmas concerts.
When asked about his future plans for the club, Mr Hazell responded by saying, “I would like to get the choir and school’s Orchestra together with the guitar club for a grand performance.” He also added that he has suggested the idea to the music teachers at the school and they have been very supportive.
Mr. Hazell is employed at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School as a Design Technology teacher and hopes to continue working with the students of the school even after he has left his teaching post.
