Lawyers bid farewell to Justice Janice George-Creque
|
She was given a big send off when the Court held a Special Sitting on January 9 to bid farewell to her. Attorney General, Dr. Wilhelm Bourne, commended Justice Creque on her promotion which he said had marked the end of an era in the administration of justice in Anguilla. He took the opportunity to offer her best wishes on behalf of his Chamber, his staff, his wife and the Government and people of Anguilla.
President of the Anguilla Bar Association, Joyce Kentish-Eglan, spoke highly of the work of Justice Creque in Anguilla, stressing the soundness and fairness of her judgments and the sense she was able to convey to lawyers and their clients that their cases had been justly decided. Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, Mrs. Kentish-Eglan said that their feelings of regret at her departure were replaced by the pride that she was going to higher calling.

Others who offered their good wishes and spoke of the professional and personal qualities of Justice Creque, were Lawyers John Benjamin, Palmavon Webster who thanked her for her assistance in unifying the Bar; Courtney Abel, Thomas Astaphan, Paulette Harrigan, Cora Hodge, Keesha Webster, Josephine Gumbs-Connor and Magistrate Birnie Stephenson-Brooks.
Replying, Justice Creque said she would miss Anguilla but was looking forward to returning to the island in due course in her capacity as an Appeal Court Judge and to renew acquaintances. She stated that in the course of work on the island she had always sought God’s guidance in an effort to strike fairness and balance in her judgments.
She was grateful to all members of the Court’s staff and the lawyers who appeared before her for their diligence, respect and roles in the community and their commitment to justice for all.
