Anguillian Appeal: motorists, Look Out For Children!

This little boy, Kenrick Gumbs, 8, could have been dead if it were not for the Grace of God.

Kenrick, son of Agnita Hodge, a resident at the eastern end of Anguilla, is a student at the Morris Vanterpool Primary School at East End. He was knocked down by a vehicle late in October 2008 and was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados badly injured and in a state of unconsciousness but is now recovering well.

All motorists on the island can prevent a similar terrible mishap if they were to drive carefully and look out for children on the roads.

Now that the schools have reopened, and with many young children traveling on foot between their homes and schools, all motorists are urged to heed this appeal and to take the case of the near death of young Kenrick as something to avoid.

At the same time, parents and guardians should advise their children to exercise caution when walking to and from school. The cardinal rules of looking east, west, north and south, before crossing a road, should be followed by all children as well as adults.
