The activity began on December 19, 2008 and continued through January 5, 2009. Personnel at Lloyd’s Aviation Services say they were extremely busy. On some nights staff worked until midnight, and some mornings began as early as 5 o’clock to enable staff to pick up pilots so that they could leave at 7.00 a.m. that day.
On the really busy days there many flight delays due to the airspace being very congested. There were flights on the ground that were due to depart at 12 noon or 1.00 p.m., but could not leave until 6.00 p.m. or later that evening.
