"Give Me Fish," Says 104 Year-Old

Anguilla’s oldest citizen, Victoria Charles, has given admirers a recipe for longevity. “Eat plenty fish and ground provisions,” she told a gathering on the grounds of St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, November 30.

“Eat good,” Ms. Charles advised in advance of her 104th birthday on Tuesday, December 2. “I don’t eat no class of meat; give me my dasheen and other ground food and me fish and I don’t like no cold water either.”

The social gathering of church members, family, friends and well-wishers, followed the Sunday Mass which Ms. Charles regularly attends. The birthday celebration was organised by St. Vincent De Paul Society of which she is a member.

Ms. Charles is originally from Blowing Point. She has been residing for the past two-and-a-half years at the Tender Loving Care Nursing Home in The Valley.
