Union President Off To Study In UK


President of the Anguilla Teachers’ Union, Leroy Hill, and a Graduate Teacher at Campus A of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, left the island on Wednesday this week to pursue a four-year course of studies in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Hill has accepted an offer from Nottingham University to pursue a privately-financed PhD in Education commencing this month, September.

In a letter to the executive and membership of the Teachers’ Union, he stated that he was taking leave of absence from the organisation’s business.

He implored the ATU to continue to uphold its objectives for a better education for all and to carry on the struggle for equality. He spoke of a number of challenges facing the union and hoped that in looking to the future that it would continue to grow and attract new blood.

Mr. Hill urged the members of the Teachers’ Union to take their teaching profession seriously and to research and implement new and innovative ways to reach many of the island’s students.
