Reporters were told at the weekly police press briefing on Wednesday that Jacob’s arrest came as they continued their investigations into the incident. The police have information that four armed and masked assailants alighted from a car on the night in question and opened fire on Collin Morton, 22, of Cauls Bottom, as he sat on his vehicle at Rey Hill. He was wounded in his left thigh while his car and nearby property were damaged by the some nine bullets of different calibre which were discharged.
The police say they have reason to believe that Sheridan Jacob was one of the assailants and they are actively looking for the other three and are welcoming the cooperation of members of the public who might have useful information.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Rudolph Proctor also said that further investigations were being carried out into the murder of Orlando Johnson, who died on August 9 after he sustained a stab wound during the Last Lap Sunrise Street Jam along the area between the Anguilla Drugstore and the Roundabout near the Webster Park. Orlando was buried on Tuesday this week following a postmortem. Bradon Romney of Blowing Point has been arrested and charged with his murder.

Police are also investigating another stabbing and wounding incident as well as stone-throwing incidents in which several persons were wounded. Some persons were arrested, charged and sentenced for the offences.

Fatal Road Accidents
The police reported that on Thursday, August 21, a Chinese national and pedestrian, Shaoyou Wan, 38, employed at the Flag/Temenos project, was struck by a vehicle in the western area of the island. He was flown to Martinique for further treatment but later died there.

In the other incident, Anthony Chance, of Sandy Hill, was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle when a collision with another vehicle occurred on the Farrington Road near the CompNation business place. The collision also damaged a third vehicle which was parked nearby. Mr. Chance was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he later died.

It was in the same area, on August 10, where Clinton Richardson, 33, of Blowing Point, died when the vehicle he was driving unfortunately collided with a utility pole.

In the regular police report, for the period August 20-27, given by Sergeant Randolph Yearwood, five persons were arrested: two to prevent a breach of the peace; one for being armed with an offensive weapon; one for possession of cannabis and one for causing death by reckless driving.

There were 14 crimes during the period. These included two burglaries at Stoney Ground and South Hill where a 21-inch television set and a DVD player were stolen and three thefts at Sandy Ground, West End and Island Harbour. The stolen property included four plastic chairs, one phone and one purse, the latter of which was resolved by the complainant and the defendant.

The crimes also included a case of obtaining credit by deception, one robbery in which a cellular phone and US$40 were stolen. The other cases were one each of causing grievous bodily harm, wounding, unlawful sexual intercourse and possession of cannabis.

Inspector Paul Sinclair reported that police were investigating an incident in which a man pointed a loaded fish gun at a woman as she walked her dogs along a western beach on the island. The terrified woman, who ran away for her safety, gave a report to the police who are making inquiries into the matter. Even the man involved in the incident is being requested to see the police to explain the circumstances that led to his unlawful behaviour.

There were three cases of criminal damage to vehicles and ten traffic accident eight of which were minor. The other two were fatal accidents as reported earlier.
