Provision is being made to accommodate between 20 and 25 persons in the classes which will be held at Police Headquarters on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, September 1-3. The classes will climax in an actual written test at the Police Training Room on Thursday, September 4.
The written test classes will follow the commencement of Traffic Week on Sunday, August 31. The opening activity on that day will be a mock traffic accident scene in the vicinity of Caribbean Commercial Bank between three and four o’clock followed by a short address by His Excellency The Governor.
The rest of the programme for Traffic Week will include radio addresses by Inspector Allan Carty and Sergeant Brooks on Monday and Tuesday, September 1 and 2 respectively.
On Friday, September 5, there will be a radio programme entitled: What’s On Today?” It will be coordinated by Mr. Calvin Bartlett, Executive Director of the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The week of activities will conclude with a training session for children to be conducted by officers of the Traffic Department.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Marva Brooks has called on all motorists on the island to obey the traffic regulations. She noted that there was an increasing number of accidents throughout Anguilla and indicated that there was a need for more road development to provide additional carriageways for the growing traffic which often result in congestion in some heavily-traveled areas.
There are currently some 10,000 vehicles on the island’s roads.
