The Methodist Youth Summer Fest is designed to bring together young people from ages 5-25 to participate in various learning activities and at the same time create a sense of community and partnership between participants. The first event was stage in 2007 when about 150 young people took part. There is no restriction on participation other than age, candidates from all denominations are welcome and have participated.
Programme
The week long programme of events include: bible study; arts and craft; drama; poetry; health issues; and field trips. A copy of this year’s programme is attached. Facilitators for the activities are drawn mainly from the Methodist Church but include persons from other denominations.
The participants are divided into four teams and all activities are designed to encourage inter team competitions to help promote teamwork. Prizes are warded for the winning team in each activity and an overall winner is decided at the end of the week.
Activities for children under eight years of age are conducted separately. These include storytelling, craftwork, videos and interactive and play learning exercises.
Funding
Funding for the Summer Fest is provided mainly by the Methodist Church as a joint project of the circuit and the six congregations, however, contributions from a few private sector organisations have been solicited. Participants are not asked to make any contribution to the costs.
