When you make the commitment to compete in a pageant a whole new world will open for you; a world that is full of exciting possibilities, meeting wonderful people, personal growth and FUN!

I am extremely proud of my accomplishments during the year of winning the title Miss Caribbean Commercial Bank Talented Teen 2007-2008.

This was by no means my first experience of this nature as prior to entering the CCB Pageant I vied for and won two titles: Miss Majorette of the Year 2006 and Miss Majorette of the Virgin Islands 2007. Earning these titles afforded me the opportunity to compete in Miss Majorette of America which will be held in Belgium this year. However, I decided to forgo that opportunity as it would conflict with my CCB Talented Teen duties. I would have to say that it was these competitions that sparked my interest in pageants and revealed the world of pageantry to me.

The exposure gained from these competitions has created exciting possibilities outside the realm of pageantry for me. Perhaps the most exciting and most recent was my appearance in a MTV music video with the Pop/Rock Star, Barefoot Davis. This video was filmed and premiered in the Virgin Islands.

Despite the many ‘fun’ activities, I am also very aware of the importance of a sound education and so I place even more emphasis on my academic achievements. I have been recently inducted in the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) which only accepts a chosen few honor roll students based on students’ PSAT scores, and I am also a member of the National Youth of Law Program. My involvement in these organizations helps to nurture the skills and abilities that would assist one in attaining my career goal of becoming an Attorney General. Other academic successes include 3rd place in the Laws of Life Essay contest and 1st place in the Poetry out Loud contest.

Of all the activities I have had the honor of participating in, the most memorable is the Digicel Miss Haynes Smith Talented Teen Pageant held in Saint Kitts last December where I was the first Anguilla representative to win making history in the 28 years the show has existed. It was indeed a wonderful experience not only because I won, but also having the opportunity to get to know 12 contestants from around the Caribbean including Cuba.

Even if I did not win the title, I would still be a stronger, more confident, self-assured and a goal oriented person simply as a result of my participation and preparation. The personal growth and self-development that is cultivated by one’s participation in any pageant is tremendous, especially when you take the attitude that you are striving for progress, never perfection. Pageants force you to examine your inner- and outer-self and share with others the characteristics that have made you who you were yesterday and who you are today. The most important thing about pageantry is remembering the people who were there for you from beginning to end.
